Everyone in the Boston area is talking about what an easy winter we’ve had compared to last year’s record snowfall! It already feels like spring.
I love this easy winter, don’t get me wrong. But I have missed the colors I enjoy that only happen in winter: the tremendous spectrum of whites and greys, the cobalt blue shadows, and the amazing glosses, color and depth you see in ice. Looking at photos of last year's landscapes I took for future reference, I got inspired all over again... So I started a large new winter painting today and thought it would be fun to give you a peek into my studio process thus far. This represents about three straight hours of painting work, with many more hours to go. Let me know if you are interested in seeing the painting when it is finished. It is 36" x 36" square, not titled yet. To see more winter paintings, scroll down. If you're interested in ordering a fine art giclée print of any of these originals, click below. It will take you to directly to me and I can order you whatever you would like in size and quantity. Warmly, Deidre

Deirdre, I loved this! Fascinating to see the painting progress. I hope you kept talking photos, because I'd love to see it through completion. Were you working from a specific photo or painting, or from an image in your mind? I missed winter, too. Wish there had been more of it. But this season (March and April, not yet spring) has its special beauties, too.

Thank you so much, Anne! I will keep showing more of the progression in the next posts. Yes, I was working from photos I took of a beautiful river outside of Boston.

Thank you so much for showing your process, so interesting! When I see those bold blue strokes my first thought is what courage you have to make the first lines! I would be so scared to get started on something I couldn't easily erase.
