One morning when visiting family down on the South Coast, I got up extra early and drove to one of my favorite spots to take pictures – West Island. Sunrise is amazing anywhere on the ocean but there is something nice about being ‘off the beaten path,’ not necessarily on the beach per se, but in a quiet green bay or inlet marsh area like this. The way the early light of dawn seems to create colors in the extremes – from hazy pastels to high-octane saturation - on foliage, water, clouds, you name it - can give an artist a lot to work with.
