When the ocean surf rolls in, then crashes, then reaches up the shore, then recedes… there are fantastic moments or ‘beats’ in the rhythm when color winks at you if you are watching. It could be the emerald green under the curl of a wave, white foam bubbling and popping, or a purple puddle sinking into the wet sand. I absolutely love to notice and catch these fleeting colors in motion. This piece comes from an artist’s retreat I took to the Cape Ann/Newburyport area, and I spent a few days on Plum Island observing and sketching in watercolors.
This original painting was part of COLORS OF THE COASTLINE at The StoveFactory Gallery. Giclée prints are available, please inquire. Original painting sold 10/15/21.
