Inspired by my artist’s retreat to Provincetown, this painting comes directly from a hike I took along Herring Cove near the very tip of Cape Cod. Some beaches of Provincetown are very vast and open, but this section of the beach felt more snug, quiet, and intimate somehow, and maybe this is how it got the name “cove.” I tucked myself in here and spent time taking a ton of pictures. I sat and thought. I felt the cool autumn air all around me, noticing the changing colors of the beach grasses and wild, brambly foliage. I listened to the seabirds and the ocean surf pounding the beach.
