Head of the Meadow Beach, Cape Cod National Seashore

Provincetown, Massachusetts

This original painting was recently on view at the juried exhibition of ILLUMINATION at Gallery Twist: info@gallerytwist.com/781-698-9994. Sold 12/2022.

My artist’s retreat to Provincetown continues to be one of the most influential and fruitful retreats I have taken thus far. I was able to spend several days exploring the wild seacoast there, a preserved area because of President John F. Kennedy’s foresight. If he had not designated it as such, it would surely have been built up by private real estate developers and only 1% of humanity would be allowed to be there. When I hiked up to the top of this hill and saw this overlooking view of a coastal meadow, my breath was taken away. I stood here for a long time, watching wave after wave of water crashing, the grasses rippling in the strong wind. Colors like plum, magenta, sienna, and gold were there in the waves of grasses and foliage in the meadow below the hill, sweeping upwards to the edge of the beach.
