Composite of memories, pictures and imagination
I grew up on a pond in a rural town in Massachusetts. Summers on the pond were full of fun, life, and activity, while winters were quiet and cold but extremely, elegantly beautiful. Though this painting is more of a marsh river than a pond, my memories of the cold light of the full moon shining on snow-blanketed ice are as vivid and clear as this painting. My childhood pond memories, I feel, helped form the visual vocabulary that I bring to the canvas. This piece actually started out as a winter daylight idea, but slowly over time it got bluer, and bluer… until the Winter Solstice full moon made an appearance and I said wow, yes, and I changed everything. Sometimes the creative process is like a risk, a chance, a mystery, a surprise.
This original painting was part of COLORS OF THE COASTLINE at The StoveFactory Gallery. Giclée prints are available, please inquire.
