Oyster shells are captivating if you take the time to look. The inner shell, called "mother of pearl," has translucent layers of lavender to golden. Oysters are associated with idea of opportunity ('the world is your oyster'), discovery and rarity ('the pearl of great price'), and beauty and mystery (associated with mythology).
